Play music into it

Sialk listens to an input device. Here is how to give it one.

Sialk listens to a system audio input and reacts to what it hears. If the sound reaches an input, the visuals move; if it does not, they sit still.

Three ways in

  • A microphone. Speakers up, built-in mic on. No setup, and it is what happens at a gig anyway: the room is the signal.
  • A loopback device. A virtual device that presents your Mac's output as an input. Clean, no bleed; best at a desk with headphones on.
  • An aggregate device. Built into macOS in Audio MIDI Setup: your interface's input and output as one device. The route when you run a real mixer.

From v1 a DAW connects from the inside, with up to eight stems and its exact tempo: connect a DAW.

If nothing is moving

  1. The input. Check Sialk's input device in Settings, and that macOS has given Sialk microphone permission.
  2. The signal. Sialk says silent after a second of nothing. If it says that while music plays, the device is wrong.
  3. The visual. Every library visual listens. A sketch of your own that never reads window.sialk sits still by design.
